Musical Journey Original

This is the first piece completed out of the four drawings, for the Soul Searching Series. It is called “Musical Journey” because I find music is where I do the most healing. It is also where I find growth. Music makes me be present and in the moment. Music takes me into my unconscious and it brings out my creativity. When I draw or create art, I always listen to music.

For this piece I listened primarily to: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pink Floyd, Big Wreck, and Nirvana. If you grew up in the days where you were stoked to see a bands NEW album cover and be able to hold your vinyl, cassette or CD in your hand – I am sure you will have fun finding references to these bands and their albums.As for the imagery… There are multiple eyes in the drawing which represents the feeling of when you think that all eyes are on you – watching your every move and scrutinizing your every decision. Sometimes this is what we think is happening, but often the realty is, people are so busy with their own problems and issues that no one is focused on your decisions. The idea that you are letting others down is sometimes false and even self centered at times. Healthy boundaries and communication is always a good choice.

You will see that there is also a female figure and she represents how sometimes we feel exposed when we are vulnerable or put ourselves out there. I often feel this way when I take a risk or do something courageous. The figure is also half fading away, which represents the opposite feeling of when we suppress doing the things that make us happy or do not take the risks that make us grow. Whenever someone is making a big career change, it can leave us feeling excited, as well as fearful all at once. There is the fear of the unknown, but also the thrill of what all the possibilities are.

This piece hopefully inspires us all to make those courageous moves because while uncomfortable in the moment, the pay off is huge. Imagine your favourite song for a moment and how much it means to you; now imagine if it was never created. It seems dramatic, but in a lot of ways, music shapes us and gives moments in our lifetime meaning. Most music comes from taking a risk, trying something new and the same goes for all who dare to be creative – I implore you to create and be daring.

Description of Soul Searching Series:

All 4 pieces were completed in 2022 and they are depicting my journey in a visual format. Some people journal, some people meditate, and for my mental health and well-being I like to draw in order to express my thoughts and feelings. While these pieces are quite unique to me, my hope is that you can take what you see and make it yours.

I hope you create your own meanings and draw your own conclusions. Perhaps you will see images or details that may resonate with you, despite these being my own personal reflections of 2022.
