This piece is about all the hats we wear from day to day and what happens to the different roles we play when under pressure, versus a day with no threats or obstacles. If you are fortunate to generally live and work in a safe space where you can truly be yourself and dive right into whatever brings you joy; imagine if that was suddenly stripped away?
The significance of the title… “When In Danger” is to ask yourself who you really are when in danger, or when faced with a challenge. How do you react when you realize you were wrong? How do you handle being under pressure at work?
This piece is meant to take a moment to look inward and ask yourself if you choose to take the high road (the majority of the time) when times are hard and do you still choose to be compassionate and giving? When you do not get your way, are you able to pivot and persevere?
None of us get it “right” every time and that’s ok. Striving for perfection is not the goal, or to beat ourselves up. What’s important is that we be honest with ourselves, because in order to make the world a better place, it starts with knowing ourselves, our tendencies; what makes us decent and also what our shortcomings are so we can grow. I was inspired by the song, “To Be Treated Right” by Chris Cornell.
Description of Soul Searching Series:
All 4 pieces were completed in 2022 and they are depicting my journey in a visual format. Some people journal, some people meditate, and for my mental health and well-being I like to draw in order to express my thoughts and feelings. While these pieces are quite unique to me, my hope is that you can take what you see and make it yours.
I hope you create your own meanings and draw your own conclusions. Perhaps you will see images or details that may resonate with you, despite these being my own personal reflections of 2022.
